Shim Storage
A finish screw keeps shims in an organized, easily separated stack.
At my local lumberyards, skinny wood shims are packed in plastic shrink wrap. This holds the shims together in the store, but as soon as you need one from the stack, you’re playing a game of pick-up sticks. I’ve tried a few different ways to keep them from becoming a mess, but my recent favorite is a finish screw through a stack and a couple light hammer blows to blunt the tip of the screw. This keeps them organized, and if I need a few I can just spin them off the stack. If I need them all, I take out the screw.
